The Bama Bugle Online

The Bama Bugle is a magazine published by the Alabama District Editor.  The minimum is 4 publications per year, but each editor can decide to publish more than that if they want to.  The newest editon of The Bama Bugle can always be found at the top of this webpage.  Previous editions are also achived here for historical purposes.  Feel free to browse them all!  If you would like to contribute to the next editon or simply have an idea you'd like to share, you can contact the current District Editor, listed on the Meet the Board page.

Miranda's spring-fresh fourth issue features shamrocks and other springtime event icons, and also some great information!  Within are some current officers' and committee chairs' last greetings, articles from a few clubs, some updates about Day of Service projects and GEM awards, current service-hour totals, upcoming events, and one new board directory!

Volume 47, Issue 3 -  January (Winter) 2005
Miranda's chilly third issue contains a bounty of great information, including greetings from all Executive District Officers except the District Treasurer, recent event information from two Lieutenant Governors, plenty of stories about holiday service projects and socials from an assortment of club officers and committee chairs, updates from several district committee chairs, a service hours update, information about District Convention, and even a special feature about the Kiwanis Online Member Community!

Volume 47, Issue 2 - October (Fall) 2004
Miranda's second issue contains an assortment of useful and enlightening information, including greetings from all Executive District Officers except the District Treasurer, Divisional Rally and other event information from three LTG's, updates from several committee chairs, a service hours update, a fun puzzle, and even a few words from International President Troy Dibley and one club treasurer!

Volume 46, Issue 5 - March/April 2004
The March/April 2004 Beach-themed finale focuses topically on fellowship and fun.  Inside it you'll find farewells from the major officers, a breakdown of some final business in the board, a feature article about successful club socials, a look ahead to International Convention in St. Louis, a Service Showcase featuring UAB's Day of Service Project and UA's Capstone Event team, a Stats-O-Rama with (as always) Officer and club service hour totals, a Winners' Circle featuring: one more member of the month; a synopsis of all members of the month for this year; and a summary of Gem Award Winners, a Calendar for April, a "Kiwanis Konklusion" featuring pictures from Kiwanis Midwinter, one last District Detour, and a final list of dates and contact information!

The Mardi Gras-themed February 2004 issue of the Bama Bugle also continues the "Road Trip" theme, while topically focusing on Member Benefits.  Inside you'll see what projects clubs did for the Alabama Day of Service, greetings from all major officers, a "Winners Circle" that showcases a number of outstanding members from an assortment of clubs, a "Captain's Journal" that recaps the Y'all Conference, a more detailed look at District Convention, a Stats-O-Rama that showcases club and board member hours, another "Doug's Ditty" about International member benefits, a Warrior's Watch from Kat, a calendar for March, a District Detour "Disaster Area" of Circle K fun and entertainment, and finally a short list of upcoming dates and officer contact information.

Volume 46, Issue 3 - January 2004
The  January 2004 Issue of the Bama Bugle kicks off the new year with another snow theme, this time also with road signs, also to start the "Road Trippin' Trilogy!"  Content-wise, this huge issue has an overall Service theme, and kicks off with a New Year's Greeting by Governor Katherine, and a new layout for the Quick status, including service hours and a District Map!  Next, we see greetings from Secretary Cathy, Treasurer Rachel, and Editor Dana.  Motivation and Recognition chair Jonathan Garrison gives an introduction before the debut of the new Stats-O-Rama section, which features Board Hours for the first time.  Next, Jonathan returns with news about the GEM awards and Members of the Month.   Next comes the Super Service Showcase which features a promo for the Alabama Day of Service, and a couple of major UA service projects.  This is followed by a look back at MER and a look ahead to District Convention.  Next we see a calendar for February and Warrior's Watch with Kat.  This leads into recent decisions by the District Board and a 2-page spread of Scholarship Information.  Next comes Society of Distinguished Collegians and International's automatic linking service.  Finally, Trustee Doug provides his "Ditty," which segues into a District Detour of fun before finishing the issue with a short calendar of dates and officer contact information!

Volume 46, Issue 2 - November/December 2003
The November/December 2003 Special Holiday Edition of the Bama Bugle begins with an article about LSSP by Rachel Mims!  Next, Officers give Holiday Greetings and Members of the Month and ICON award winners are presented in the Winners' Circle.  Then, Service Showcase announces Luminaries and gives a service hours update, and a call for Lieutenant Governors is made.  Then, Conference Coverage looks back at International Convention and looks forward to Y'All.  Next, Secretary Cathy Collier gives not one, but two  synopses of past Board Meetings.  Then, Kiwanis Family and the College Column return, and finally, we see the Board Directory and Upcoming Events at a Glance!

Volume 45, Issue 6 - February/March 2003
The February/March 2003 Issue of the Bama Bugle introduces the two newest additions to the Alabama District: Judson and Northwest Shoals!  Plus, the Lieutenant Governors and Revitalization Chairs summarize the achievements and improvement of their respective divisions.  The service showcase features pictures of Huntingdon and UA's joint service project involving Valentine's Day Care Packages.  The Winners' Circle presents some members of the Month from October and November, and announces the 2002-03 Gem Award Winners.  Y'all 2003 is recapped, and a first look toward LDC and International Convention is given.  The Bugle Boggler features Date Dilemmas, and College Column presents time management tips.  Finally, the 2002-2003 officers say their goodbyes and their contact information is displayed one last time.

Volume 45, Issue 5 - January 2003
The January 2003 Issue of the Bama Bugle starts off with a New Year's Greeting from Governor Kara Gonzalez, Secretary Stephanie Demarest presents synopses of the last two board meetings, and Steven gives some advice for prospective members and club treasurers.  Also, Vulcan Revitalization Chair and Gulf Lieutenant Governor tell what was going on in their divisions over the holidays, the Service Showcase features one innovative and one traditional project from UA, Winners' Circle shows some photos of some honored members, Pic gives a "Polar" Perspective about the Tomorrow Fund, "Condensed" Convention Coverage recaps MER and provides a first look toward LDC and ICON, College Column features new year's resolutions for better grades, Kiwanis Family Focus features Kiwanis Governor Miss Karla telling about the Boundless Playground Build in April, a final International Scholarships checklist and a word about District Matching Scholarships are included, and the Bugle Boggler features Snowflake Stumpers!  Also included in the center of the issue were an agenda and registration form for District Convention!

Volume 45, Issue 4 - November/December 2002
The November/December 2002 issue of the Bama Bugle explains why 2002-03 is a year of growth.  Festive greetings are given from District Officers.   Service Showcase features the invasion of Bryce and Hooking Up with the Tide/FOCUS, and tells about the Service Recognition Award, Winners' Circle introduces members of the months and tells how you can become a Distinguished Collegian. Conference Coverage recaps Kiwanis Family Conference and provides an agenda and other information for Y'all 2003.  Kiwanis Family Focus provides another view of K-Family Conference from the eyes of a Key Clubber, and a look at the Circle K-cosponsored Eastwood Builders' Club!  Scholarship Information runs down a full list of eligibility requirements and application guidelines, as well as scholarships available.  College Column gives some good study habits, Club Chatter presents an article from UAH's club secretary, and the Bugle Boggler presents some Tricks of the Tree!

Volume 45, Issue 3 - October 2002
The October 2002 Issue of the Bama Bugle is a pretty standard issue that presents greetings from District Officers, a Winners' Circle of Club Members of the Months, A Kiwanis Family Update, Dates of Key Club Fall Rallies, Service Showcase featuring an article about the K-Family Hands-on Service Award by Miss Karla, Convention Coverage recapping ICON 2002 and introducing the Essay Contest to win a trip to a Leaderscape or ICON, MER 2002 Update and Agenda, Pic's Premiere Perspective, Introduction of Administrative Assistant Charlotte Cooper, a Bugle Boggler that is easy as 1, 2, 3, and a College Column that David Letterman would enjoy!  Also, more entries appear in the District Directory.

Volume 45, Issue 2 - August/September 2002
In the August/September 2002 Issue of the Bama Bugle, it's out with the old and in with the new...wait, wasn't that last issue?!  Nope, that's right, but only in the case of Governor...and Servometer.  The other District Officers give introductions too.  The Service Showcase spotlights reading projects in accordance with the International Service Initiative.  Winners' Circle presents International Convention Award Winners for the 2001-02 year.  Southern Summer Social 2002 is recapped, and Convention Coverage promotes Leaderscape, Tri-K Event, Kiwanis Family Conference, and MER.  Kiwanis Family Focus introduces K-Family Relations Chair Gilly and Governor-Designate Miss Karla Moons.  Kiwanis Governor Truel Watts and First Lady Sylvia Watts say "Thank you," New Committee Chairs are introduced, College Corner becomes College Column and gives résumé tips, Jason's Jivin' Journal has its Final Entry, Bugle Birthdays appears one last time, and Bugle Boggler returns with Wacky Wordies!  Finally, a few more entries appear in the District Directory.

Volume 45, Issue 1 - April/May 2002
To begin the April/May 2002 Issue of the Bama Bugle, I introduce myself and let members know what they can expect this year.  Then, the other officers follow suit.  Service Showcase spotlights Pet Projects and Debuts the Servometer.  Winners' Circle Debuts with a Member of the Month and District Convention Award Winners.  Convention Coverage features highlights of District Convention 2002 and a Guide to International Convention 2002.  Kiwanis Family Focus debuts with a welcome to the 50th Anniversary Key Club District Convention and Kiwanis Summer Happenings, Jason's Jivin' Journal continues with an update on his last board meeting, Club and Member Birthdays covers April and May, College Corner tells some Basic Interview Tips, Bama Bugle Boggler asks "Who Owns the Fish?," Final Thought debuts, and the District Directory contains the first eight officers and important vacancies.
